Intra uterin lifeSince the 1980s, a lot of research has been done to prove the existence of a very intense mental and sensorial life in the foetus. This data has only confirmed Tomatis's positions on intra uterine life, as stated 30 years earlier.
Indeed, since the 50s, Tomatis had asserted that the maternal voice was perceived by the foetus, and that for the latter the maternal voice constituted a kind of primordial emotional-acoustic substance which was capital for its development, both physically and mentally. Furthermore, for Tomatis, hearing this voice enabled the foetus to stock up the basic structures of its native language, that is to say its rhythms and its intonation contours.
It is well established that when the mother is expecting her child, she will transmit the whole range of her affective and emotional states to the child, both positive and negative.
This is why it is important that during this period which is exceptional in terms of communication, the future mother is in the best possible conditions of relaxation and serenity.
The electronic ear sessions will enable her to free herself of the anxiety and stress which can invade her, whether due to difficult external circumstances or out of fear of the pain associated with birth.
However, in all cases, it is very important that the pregnant woman succeeds inrelaxing and eliminating her anxiety and her stress, not only for herself but also for her child. Indeed, the more a woman is subjected to anxiety and tension, the more she will feel physically unwell, all the while transmitting these negative emotional states to her child.
Apart from fighting against anxiety and preventing pain, the sessions will therefore provide relaxation and energisation at the same time.
But they will also enable to free breathing and prevent bad physical attitudes, thus helping the future mother to adopt the most adequate posture in relation to her physical shape. They will have also a beneficial action on the regulation of sleep, as well as a major preventive action on the drop in energy frequently occurring after birth.
And finally, they will have the effect of contributing to the development of the child's communication abilities, abilities which, for Tomatis, originate in this acoustic relationship with the maternal voice first formed in the foetus during the intra uterine experience.
