The training sessions on the practice of the Tomatis® Method are geared towards professionals in the health industry. Therapists, teachers who want to understand the nature of the close link between the brain and the ear, and who also want to add an effective teaching tool for their business. All applications are carefully considered on the basis of qualifications, experience, project and of course, the motivation of the candidate.

The training courses are not open to individuals who wish to benefit from the Tomatis® Method. We invite them to contact a professional referenced on this site.

The Tomatis® Method is a complementary program that cannot replace the work of a professional. It’s an additional tool to any traditional therapy and increases the expected results.

Occupational therapists

Occupational Therapists work with a variety of individuals across the life span, from young babies to adults.  Their focus being the improvement in the functional skills necessary for independence with learning, motor skill development, play, self-care, work and socialization in the home, school and community environments of their clients. There are many tools that are used by occupational therapists to support the function, development and growth of the client. One powerful tool is the Tomatis® Method. A sound processing system that engages the ear. The ear as we know it is both an auditory and a motor system. It provides us with sensory information for balance, movement, and coordination as well as the ability to process language and communicate.   Using the Tomatis® Method in conjunction with occupational therapy has shown to benefit clients struggling with Sensory processing disorders, Autism spectrum disorders, Cerebral Palsy, and developmental delays. Many of these disorders require intensive therapy and support.

The Tomatis® Method is a great tool with tremendous flexibility. Occupational therapists can use the Tomatis® Method in their clinics with direct client interaction and in addition they are able to send the equipment home so that families can continue the work on their own! Using the Tomatis® Method with occupational therapy has shown to benefit clients struggling with:

  • Sensory processing disorders
  • Spectrum disorders
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Brain injury
  • Down’s Syndrome,
  • Dyspraxia
  • Genetic disorders and other diagnoses that present elements of developmental delay

Speech and Language Pathologists

The Tomatis® Method provides auditory stimulation that can be used in conjunction with traditional therapies to enhance the client’s ability to listen to others and him/herself, improve  quality of speech, improve the rhythm of back-and-forth conversational turn-taking, and improve speech prosody. Working on the auditory feedback loop thanks to bone conduction and the Tomatis® effect will help with:

  • ADD / ADHD
  • Speech and language delays
  • Poor Phonological awareness
  • Auditory Processing Disorders
  • Dyslexia

Physical therapists

The Tomatis® Method provides an effective complement to other methodologies used in physical therapy to retrain the body-movement system in general. The combination of air and bone conduction assists the vestibular (movement) system to regulate the sense of balance and the synchrony of the body working in multiple planes of movement, including the bilateral integration of the left and right sides of the body, and the coordination of upper and lower body movements. The Tomatis® Method will help with:

  • Sensory processing
  • Balance and motor control
  • Movement and Coordination
  • Rhythm

Psychologists

When the sound message is correctly heard but poorly analyzed in an emotional framework, we say that "listening is disrupted ". The Tomatis® Method is used widely by clinical psychologists as an adjunct to their regular therapies. The Method’s well-known effect of cortical stimulation creates a readiness and an energy that increases the potential effect of the overall therapy. The client’s listening intent is enhanced, and clients are better able to communicate their thoughts and difficulties. The Tomatis® Method is practiced by psychologists to help with

  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Poor self-esteem

Medical practitioners

The Tomatis® Method can be used as a complementary treatment in several specializations within the medical field. Psychiatrists who want to stimulate the brain naturally and efficiently instead of with prescription psychoactive medications, have found the Method to be beneficial, as have pediatricians facing developmental difficulties in their youngest patients, obstetricians who are helping expectant mothers prepare for childbirth, and even generalists who want to offer their patients a non-intrusive way to improve their overall sense of well-being.

Teachers, special needs teachers

The Tomatis® Method is especially helpful to any teacher who requires a certain listening potential in order for a student to learn. It assists in directing the student’s focus to the learning material and supports the student’s ability to remain attentive for longer periods of time. The Method also supports the teacher's efforts to improve the student’s ability to understand the phonetic decoding of the written word, and thus aids in the development of reading ability.

Hundreds of schools have implemented the Tomatis® Method to help children who are struggling with learning disabilities or having difficulty with academic skills.

Certified life coaches

Foreign language teachers

The aim of the Tomatis® Method is to give to any person wanting to learn a foreign language the possibility of truly appropriating its rhythms and sounds by efficiently adapting the ear to them in order to analyze them more accurately and reproduce them more faithfully. This work consists of being released from the rhythm and sound habits of the native language, which often comprises a negative “brake” on the language to be learned.
